US Forest Service closing Whitetop Road at Mount Rogers for repairs

Repairs started this week inside the Mount Rogers National Recreational Area that will result in the closure of Whitetop Road for 30 days.
A report from the agency said traffic will be prohibited along the 3 mile stretch that extends from Whitetop down to State Route 600 while crews complete road maintenance triggered by Hurricane Helene damages.
The project will also impact the areas of Appalachian Trail Mile Post 489 trailhead and Observation Point. Alternative trail access can be found at the Elk Garden or Beach Mountain trailheads.
