Highway Patrol confirms plane crash death of NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and family
A spokesperson for the North Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed the grim news of the death of two-time NASCAR champion Greg Biffle and his family following the crash of his Cessna business jet at Statesville Regional Airport Thursday morning.
Biffle was scheduled to fly to Florida to meet with YouTube personality Cleetus McFarland (Garrett Mitchell) when the plane reversed course after 10:15 am and made an approach to the airstrip when eyewitnesses said the aircraft was flying low then crashed. The NTSB will now take charge of the investigation.
The 55-year-old Biffle was crowned the 2000 champion in the Craftsman Truck Series and the 2002 winner in the Xfinity Series. Statistics show Biffle’s best finish at Bristol Motor Speedway was 3rd in August of 2012 at the Irwin Tools Night Race.
Biffle was the owner of a quarry operation in Wythe County, Virginia and volunteered his time and helicopter in 2024 to help stranded residents following Hurricane Helene.
