TDOT and VDOT in preparations for major winter storm impacting Tri Cities this weekend
As the chances of a major winter storm impacting the Tri Cities this weekend increases, both the Tennessee and Virginia departments of transportation are preparing equipment and staff to begin working around the clock. Storm totals are still uncertain, but expected to be significant and will have a major impact on travel. Both TDOT and VDOT officials say they are focused on staffing and making sure the crews can adapt to quickly changing conditions. Both agencies are recommending drivers to stay home during winter weather so road crews can safely and efficiently treat roadways. The last major storm of this magnitude to impact the Tri-Cities was in 2018, when parts of the region recorded almost 10 inches of snow. The National Weather Service in Morristown’s latest forecast shows the snow beginning to move into the region with snow showers expected late Friday.
