New law criminalizes ICE officer’s information released by public officials
A Tennessee bill criminalizing the actions of public officials or government entities who knowingly publish the personal information of federal immigration officers now heads to Governor Bill Lee’s desk. The legislation passed the House 70-19 last week, and House Speaker Cameron Sexton signed the bill Wednesday. It now awaits Governor Lee’s signature. Once the bill becomes law, public officials could face criminal penalties and be removed from office if they knowingly release ICE officers’ names in a way that could endanger them. The legislation creates a range of criminal penalties depending on how the information is released.
