Weber City Police Department closes amid VSP investigation
The Weber City Police Department closed its doors on Wednesday after the Town Council voted to fire the police chief and a sergeant on Tuesday night. The Virginia State Police confirmed last week that it was investigating the department and on Wednesday confirmed that the investigation remained active. Last week, the county commonwealth’s attorney confirmed that two officers were placed on leave. Town officials said the police department was closed on Wednesday because the one officer employed there was not on shift. The Sheriff’s Office will step in for coverage but said call response times would be longer. The Virginia State Police will also assist with responding to calls.
