“Castle Doctrine” protections could expand in TN
New legislation in Tennessee that expands when deadly force can be used on private property is now awaiting Governor Bill Lee’s signature for final approval. The new legislation would expand Castle Doctrine protections in Tennessee. The new legislation would add certain property crimes to Tennessee’s self-defense law, including arson, burglary, robbery and aggravated cruelty to animals. Once signed into law, a person could use deadly force on their own property in those situations if they are not committing a felony or Class A misdemeanor themselves. If Governor Lee signs, the new law would go into effect on July 1.
