VA Governor Spanberger signs bills to make Childcare more affordable
Wednesday, Governor Abigail Spanberger ceremonially signed bills she says will help make childcare more affordable in Virginia. The bills signed include legislation to create the Employee Child Care Assistance Program. The program would incentivize businesses to contribute to their employees’ childcare costs by matching the amount of money businesses contribute with state funds. Some of the rules surrounding the program, including the amount families will have to contribute alongside businesses and the state, and the amount of state funding the program will receive, will be decided upon when lawmakers and Spanberger reach a budget agreement. Spanberger added that the program is another example of why Virginia lawmakers need to pass a budget.
