Gunman of Carroll County officer makes first Virginia court appearance

Murder suspect Michael Puckett made his first appearance in Carroll County court following his arrest in the shooting death of Deputy Logan Utt.

The proceedings were held so that at attorney could be appointed for Puckett who is scheduled to appear in court again on July 14th.

As plans for Utt’s funeral are being finalized in his native Mount Airy, officers from surrounding law enforcement agencies have arrived in Carroll County to help with patrols while local personnel continue to deal with the loss of the 31-year-old armed forces veteran and father who died in Fancy Gap over the weekend when Puckett reportedly shot and killed Utt and another officer who survived.
