Residents rescued from roof of Glade Spring house fire

The Glade Spring Fire Department said its members rescued multiple residents from the roof of a house on Thursday night while it was burning. Crews were called to reports of a bedroom fire on Maple Street at around 11:46 Thursday night with initial reports indicating that the caller had exited the building which was an early-1900s home that had been converted into apartments. While in route, crews were notified that several residents were trapped on the roof of the structure. Crews deployed ground ladders, and assisted all occupants safely off their perch. Crews battled the blaze for over four hours with several agencies assisted. All residents were displaced and the home is no longer in livable condition. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced. No injuries were reported but two pets died as a result of the fire.
