Second Harvest reports all of TN’s food bank service areas above nat’l average for food insecurity

A data report released by Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee reveals all five of Tennessee’s food bank service areas are above the national rate of food insecurity, and Northeast Tennessee’s food insecurity rate is among the worst. The data shows Tennessee has a statewide food insecurity rate of 16.3%. In Northeast Tennessee, the food insecurity rate is even higher at 18.7%. The food bank noted that Hancock County faces the highest food insecurity rate in the area at 24.8% and the highest child food insecurity rate at 30.4%.
