WCSO VA says Saylor Hayes was not wearing her Project Lifesaver transmitter

The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office says that investigators were able to determine that 5-year-old Saylor Hayes, a non-verbal child who was found dead after going missing in Georgetown County, South Carolina, was not wearing her Project Lifesaver transmitter when she went missing. Hayes was a member of the sheriff’s office’s Project Lifesaver program. Her family is from the Bristol area. The program provides bands with transmitters that at-risk individuals can wear. The bands track the individual’s location in case they go missing. The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office says after being unable to locate Saylor’s frequency, they contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s office which detected the signal and located the transmitter in a vehicle on the property. The cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending the completion of the autopsy and any necessary additional testing.
