Continued courthouse air concerns results in judicial emergency in Washington County, Virginia

The Virginia Supreme Court has declared a judicial emergency for Washington County as repairs continue at the courthouse complex in Abingdon to deal with negative air quality test results due to mold.

Emergency business matters are being served by court clerk offices while most of the chambers and offices remain closed. Nonessential court proceedings are suspended and the courts can use video conferencing for necessary hearings.

County officials plan to reopen the facility on September 11.
