Progress reported in mold removal at Washington County, Virginia Courthouse
After testing this week, Washington County Virginia officials said their historic courthouse in Abingdon is in good condition following a mold discovery that has kept the facility closed since August.
A Wednesday statement said the structure is free of mold and lower humidity levels after extensive removal work.
“…Humidity levels were checked and measured below 60 percent throughout the building,” according to the prepared statement that also noted all dehumidification equipment was removed by work crews on September 26.
“The County believes these improvements will provide additional protection for the building and help maintain appropriate humidity levels, particularly during the warmer and more humid summer months.”
The board of supervisors will consider funding more courthouse improvements at their next regular session, including the installation of three HVAC units and replacing portions of roof that have been on the facility since the 1950s.
