Buchanan County Building Resilience With Flood Preparedness Funds

Buchanan County, specifically the small town of Hurley was recently ravaged by heavy rains and flooding last month that killed one person and caused millions of dollars in damages is now receiving nearly 400 thousand dollars to help the community build resilience for future impacts of flooding. The Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund totals more than seven million dollars. Buchanan County will use 387 thousand dollars of that money in the first round of funding to support flood preparedness plans and consultant fees at a cost of 387 thousand dollars. The grant is made possible by Virginia’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
