BVA Public Schools will see more city funding in new fiscal year
The budget for Bristol, Virginia Public Schools will see more city funding in the upcoming fiscal year after the state increased the city’s composite index. This increase comes amid budget shortfalls and debt struggles within the city government. 70% of the budget will fund instructional expenditures. 16% will fund facilities. Transportation, administration and technology each get 4% and the remaining 2% covers debt service and interfund transfers. The school board also approved the purchase of 600 laptops for school use, as well as a 22-passenger school bus and a 72-passenger bus during the meeting. The Bristol, Virginia, School Board will have their next meeting on April 13.
