Carter County Detention Center receives top-level marks from state corrections
A surprise inspection from the Tennessee Corrections Institute produced a perfect score for the Carter County Sheriff’s Office following the review of their corrections center in Elizabethton.
Sheriff Mike Fraley said a state report indicating zero deficiencies is a welcome sight after a 2022 review revealed high employee turnover, dangerously low jail personnel and operational problems with the jail itself.
This is Carter County’s fourth consecutive perfect score from the state.
“When I think back to where this facility was in 2022, on the verge of decertification, and see where it is now, having a perfect inspection score four years in a row, I cannot express how proud I am of our Detention Center leadership and staff,” Sheriff Fraley said.
