Death row inmate Christa Pike conscious and speaking after botched execution attempt
Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike is conscious and speaking at an off-site hospital following a failed execution attempt last week. Pike was placed on a ventilator in critical condition after state officials administered two doses of pentobarbital during the September 30th procedure. Her attorneys state she suffered severe injuries to her arms and are renewing requests for Governor Bill Lee to commute her sentence to life without parole. Legal experts note Pike may now argue her constitutional rights against cruel and unusual punishment were violated, which could halt future execution attempts. A court hearing is scheduled for this morning to address an emergency motion to preserve evidence.
