Elizabethton City Council approves property tax increase

The Elizabethton City Council on Monday just approved a nine-cent property tax increase for Elizabethton residents after second reading and a public hearing. The new property tax rate is $1.74 per $100 of assessed value, up from the previous rate of $1.65. Officials in Elizabethton say that the increase will benefit the city’s schools, fire department and roads. The new rate would mean an Elizabethton resident living in a home appraised at $200,000 would pay about $45 more a year.
