ETSU and Hawkins County Schools launch new “ETSU GEAR UP” program
Leaders of ETSU and Hawkins County Schools just announced the launch of the ETSU GEAR UP program which is a partnership aimed at guiding students and their families through postsecondary education. The launch of the new program marks the second-largest grant in university history of $29-million. Combined with other funds, officials say the entire contribution totals $50-million. The program will place full-time college and career counselors at area schools to offer support for students and their families as they navigate post-secondary education options. Counselors will begin in area middle schools, following current 7th and 8th graders into high school to continue support.
