ETSU Public Health provides hot heat index checklist

People over 65, young children and those on the job outside are the most at-risk as an above normal heat wave bakes the Mountain Empire.
ETSU Dean of the College of Public Health Dr. Randy Wykoff has produced a checklist residents can follow for safe heat protection.
Those include staying hydrated and not waiting until you are thirsty to replenish, sunglasses and sunscreen are a must for all ages, avoiding alcohol and eating lighter meals and checking on elderly neighbors and loved ones frequently. Pets need to be brought indoors or allowed in for cool down periods and they must have shade and a good supply of water while temperatures rise into the 90s.
