Gatlinburg Bypass back open after weekend mudslide

The final load of debris has been hauled out and the Gatlinburg Bypass in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has been reopened after a weekend mudslide.
Rocks, trees and stacks of mud came down the mountain, triggered by almost 4 inches of rain that fell from 10 to 11:30 am Saturday, covering the entire highway.
Public work crews from Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Sevier County assisted National Park workers in removing 140 truck loads of debris from the bypass, according to an agency report.
