Gun Safety instruction begins in Sullivan County schools

After a new law was passed in 2024, Tennessee schools were required to provide firearm safety instruction to students starting in the 2025-2026 school year. Sullivan County Schools has started implementing gun safety programs in schools. Sullivan County Director of Schools Chuck Carter said the programs could save a life and that education in firearm safety is key. Sullivan County elementary schools use the “Eddie the Eagle” video training series, which teaches young students what to do if the encounter a weapon. Middle and high school students will be receiving more detailed training.
