Johnson City BOE approves funding to repair Freedom Hall pool
The Johnson City Board of Education has approved funding for repairs to the Freedom Hall pool. The board unanimously passed the use of $864,000 in Peoples Education Plan, or PEP funds, for the repairs. The Peoples Education Plan is from a 1994 city referendum where residents approved a one-fourth-cent increase in the retail sales and use tax and to keep those funds in a separate account. The Freedom Hall pool, built in 1974, has been used by Science Hill High School student-athletes and youth swim teams. The City Commission approved the plan to use PEP funds at its July 16 meeting.
