Land protection group purchases Smith Ridge tract in Carter County
A conservation group has taken ownership of more than 100 acres in East Tennessee but the end goal is to make that property available for nearby Roan Mountain State Park.
The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy announced the acquisition of the adjacent acreage near Roan Mountain’s north boundary in Carter County.
The lands at Smith Branch will be the second tract purchased for state park expansion in the last three years.
