Lawmen: Child sex abuse suspect in collected photos of children in Smyth County off Facebook

Smyth County’s top law enforcement officials are cautioning parents and guardians after a child sex abuse suspect collected digital photos of children from that locality while on Facebook.

The message from Sheriff Chip Shuler and Commonwealth’s Attorney Bucky Blevins said the suspect picked out the pictures of fully-clothed children from Facebook. They cautioned adults to consider what you post to social media and start a safety routine to check online to make sure their child has not been exploited and ends up somewhere the owner never intended.

The joint statement did not include the name of the suspect.
