NEW: One in custody, two explosives destroyed by bomb techs at Kingsport home

One person is in custody and two explosive devices were destroyed by bomb techs, concluding a 12-plus hour Kingsport police operation at an home in Lynn Garden.

A city report said a tip about possible volatile material inside the abandoned home on Cooper Street, causing police to issue a reverse 911 call to residents in surrounding neighborhoods about evacuations due to the investigation.

The statement said the nature and complex work of discovering then disposing of the devices requires officers to be methodical in their work, resulting in the long wait for those residents to return home which occurred after midnight Thursday.

“The teams at work on Cooper Street worked diligently and efficiently to ensure the best possible outcome for protecting lives and property endangered by these devices and substances,” the report said.

The name of the individual has not been released.
