North Carolina election official accused of trying to drug granddaughters

A top GOP election official in neighboring Surry County, North Carolina is accused of trying to drug his two juvenile granddaughters by placing narcotics in Dairy Queen Blizzards he purchased for them in Wilmington.
A city police report said 66-year-old James Edwin Yokeley Jr placed pills identified as cocaine and MDMA or Ecstasy in their ice cream then flagged down a policeman and said the girls had found hard objects in their desert. The report said video footage revealed Yokeley was the one who planted the pills.
He is charged with felony child abuse and contaminating food or drink with a controlled substance. Surry County officials have called for Yokeley’s resignation.
