NTSB: Cockpit voice recorder from Biffle’s plane recovered
An NTSB spokesperson said the cockpit voice recorder inside the plane in North Carolina carrying NASCAR Champion Greg Biffle and his family is on its way to Washington DC for further analysis.
The official gave updates Friday as they continue to examine wreckage of Biffle’s 1981 Cessna that went down Thursday morning.
Biffle, his immediate family and two other passengers were killed as they returned to a Statesville airport shortly after takeoff.
The plane was in the air for 10 minutes prior to the wreck, according to the spokesperson, and three people aboard the craft including Biffle had flight licenses but they are not sure who was in control of the plane at the time of the crash.
The plane took out approach lighting, trees and fencing on its descent and was 1,800 feet from the runway at the time of ground impact.
