Poll: Growing concern about federal cuts among Tennesseans

Results of a new Vanderbilt University poll show declining support of President Trump’s cuts of federal programs and jobs along with his series of tariffs against foreign trade partners.
More than 1,200 registered voters were interviewed and 93 percent who identified as MAGA supporters were against cutting social security while 75 percent of purely GOP membership oppose the tariffs that are sparking higher prices on some goods.
Four out of five people said they are against cuts to Medicaid and Medicare and 51 percent of those Tennesseans are in favor of deporting migrants with no criminal record.
In terms of the economy and the cost of living, 61 percent thought US spending was bad, 85 percent said the cost for basics was too high, and the level of concern about the economy is higher than it was in the spring of 2020 when the US was in the throws of a growing COVID pandemic.
