Red Onion inmate indicted for murder
A Red Onion State Prison inmate has been indicted for murder by a Wise County grand jury.
Julian Leon Mitchell, 36, is charged with aggravated murder in the death of 30-year-old Jowell Legendre. A prior report from the Virginia Department of Corrections was investigating an incident where an inmate had fallen out of a bunk at Red Onion in August.
An online petition from Legendre’s mother said it was her son that was injured and claims Legendre did not receive proper medical care that led to his death days later.
