Report: VFL Jason Witten headed to the SEC as a coach, but not in Knoxville
ESPN is reporting Elizabethton native and NFL great Jason Witten is finalizing a deal to become the tight ends coach at Oklahoma.
Witten has prior coaching experience, winning two state championships in Texas at Liberty Christian School as head coach. Witten making a move to the college ranks coincides with his son Cooper possibly becoming a 5-star recruit at tight end next season.
Witten will find out next month if he has become a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Fame member after making the organization’s final cut down list for 2026.
The Elizabethton High graduate signed a one-day contract with the Dallas Cowboys for his second and final retirement from the NFL in 2021. Witten played for 17 seasons including two stints with the Cowboys and one year with the Las Vegas Raiders.
