School board member who was vocal during transgender student discussion resigns
Washington County, Virginia School Board member Terry Fleenor has announced his resignation citing the political climate of the locality.
Fleenor was vocal at last week’s board meeting during a public comment session where more than a dozen residents spoke out against new Dept. of Education guidelines to protect transgender students and had labeled Governor Northam and Democratic lawmakers evil.
Fleenor, who is also a Methodist pastor, claims several in the county are not upholding the Constitutional duty to help protect all people including transgender.
The board member also noted that two constitutional officers in the county have not performed their duties related to the issue.
Fleenor had previously announced that he would not seek another term on the board and had five months remaining.
Votes among school boards in Southwest Virginia have been split in regards to the transgender regulations.
