SEC: Kick that nearly led to Tennessee comeback should have been penalized

The Southeastern Conference issued a statement on Tennessee’s onside kick during a comeback attempt against Texas over the weekend.

The free kick was attempted behind the 35 yard line and was incorrectly officiated and should have resulted in a five yard penalty and a replay of the down. The TN kicker also changed his lateral position before the kick, also against regulations, and they regret the errors.

Texas remains undefeated with the win. The No. 17 Volunteers entertain Auburn in Knoxville this weekend.
