Six men indicted for charges related to Hamblen County inmate death
Six men incarcerated at the time of the death of a fellow inmate in Hamblen County are now charged after an extensive investigation.
A report from the Sheriff’s Office said the autopsy results for Andrew Joseph Dalton, 37, of Whitesburg showed the cause of death was an overdose that police said was the result of heroin being smuggled into the jail.
The six suspects, whose names have not been released, were indicted by a grand jury on charges of introduction and distribution of narcotics in a correctional facility. The report said more charges are expected.
