Smyth County Sheriff’s Office looking for missing man

The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating missing 47 year old Eric Wayne Pennington who was last seen in the Skulls Gap area of the county. Police say Pennington was last seen Thursday by his friends while camping with in Skulls Gap and is considered endangered due to medical conditions. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark hoodie and a black or blue ball cap. His friends had assisted in getting him to the camp, and left him to fish when they returned to camp and had a plan for Pennington if he ran into trouble. When the friends realized he hadn’t returned to camp, or executed their plan to head to a nearby neighborhood, they began searching and then called authorities. Rescue crews searched for Pennington with the search eventually ending without any evidence of Pennington’s whereabouts.
