Spanberger declares state of emergency for impending winter blast
Not even in office a full week and Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger is dealing with her first potential storm to impact the Commonwealth.
Spanberger declared a State of Emergency to launch a full-scale operation to clear snow and help residents who could be without electricity for several days depending on the impact.
The governor also recommended postponing any travel this weekend, especially in the hours of Saturday night, Sunday and Monday morning, after VDOT officials briefed the governor on the when the likely unpredictable road conditions will hit.
Spanberger cautioned Virginians about dangerous low temperatures mixed in with the storm and VDOT crews will hit primary routes first if interstates stay clear of travelers; that means secondary highways and streets could not see a snowplow for 24 to 48 hours.
