Superintendent confirms Grayson County band teacher fired and facing felony charges

A Southwest Virginia high school band director has been fired after being charged with felonies by Grayson County authorities.
Court records show Austin Douglas Farmer was arraigned on charges of possession of child pornography and sexual abuse of an animal during hearings in juvenile and general district court.
A statement posted on Facebook from Superintendent of Schools Kelly Wilmore says the Sheriff’s Office notified the system of an investigation of Farmer last month and he was placed on administrative leave. Wilmore said administrators had no knowledge of Farmer’s alleged activity and was informed by the county sheriff that information indicates that no students were involved with Farmer who has another court hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
