Suspect in Milligan crash in court for preliminary hearing
Two of the Milligan University athletes seriously injured in Carter County crash took the stand, testifying in a preliminary hearing involving the man accused of hitting them with his pickup, killing two of their teammates.
One of the cyclists on the stand said he remembers a teammate in the air then thrown underneath a guard rail after the team of 10 riders were struck by John Benfield who is charged with vehicular homicide. Benfield remains jailed after a judge revoked his bond after he tested positive for THC and alcohol.
Milligan athlete Ron Shindell told the court that he plans to continue riding and competing once he is healthy.
