Taking off: Greeneville’s Appy League franchise to now be known as ‘Flyboys’
Greeneville’s Appalachian League baseball team is the latest squad to unveil their new nickname as the revamped league prepares for its season in a new format.
The club, owned by Boyd Sports, announced yesterday they would go by Flyboys when players take to the baseball diamond later this summer.
General Manager Kat Foster says the decision to brand the team Flyboys was made from research about an old airfield that once sat where the current ballfield sits, as well as a strong history of patriotism in the area.
