University of Kentucky student from White Pine charged in infant’s death

A University of Kentucky senior student who is a native of East Tennessee faces several charges after a dead infant was found inside of her Lexington home.

An initial police report said Laken Snelling, 21, of White Pine gave birth to the baby on Wednesday then put the child in a towel and a trash bag and placed it in a closet. First responders were called later that day after the report of an unresponsive child.

Snelling is charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and concealing the birth of an infant. The statement said the cause of the baby’s death will be determined by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
