UPDATE: Driver involved in 2018 crash that killed Cloudland High School student enters no contest plea
A man charged in a 2018 fatal car crash that killed a Cloudland High School student entered a plea of no contest on Friday in Carter County Criminal Court.
Cory Ray Mowdy, 32, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for one count of vehicular homicide and was ordered to pay restitution to the family of Brandi Thompson—the 17-year-old who died when Mowdy’s vehicle crossed the center line on Highway 19E on Roan Mountain and struck another vehicle head-on.
Mowdy was indicted by a grand jury in 2019 and was extradited to Tennessee from Hickory, North Carolina.
