UPDATE: Passenger in SUV killed in early morning crash in Bluff City

Reconstruction teams with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate following a fatal Monday morning crash near Bluff City.

A report from Sheriff Jeff Cassidy said 911 was notified of the crash in the 200 block of Whitehead Road just before 5:30. An SUV pulling a boat reportedly swerved a hit a guardrail, causing the craft to come off the trailer and the vehicle to flip and land upside down in a ditch.

Officers said a passenger in the SUV was declared dead at the scene. The driver identified as Cody Hammons, 24, was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries. The name of the victim has not been released.
