VA Democrats to take redistricting referendum to SCOTUS
Virginia Democrats have filed a motion asking the state Supreme Court “to delay issuing its mandate” after it narrowly struck down a redistricting referendum Friday that voters narrowly approved in a special election, saying it would file an emergency appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. The state Supreme Court ruled 4-3 Friday that the state’s Democratic-led legislature violated procedural requirements when it placed the constitutional amendment on the ballot to authorize the mid-decade redistricting.
