VDH data shows high number of respiratory hospitalizations
Data from the Virginia Department of Health reveals that Virginia is experiencing a high number of hospitalizations for respiratory illnesses. Around 24% of the emergency department visits in the state are for respiratory issues. Children four years and younger are particularly affected, as they seem to be the most admitted to hospitals for COVID-19. The surge in cases includes an increase in influenza. Those between 5 and 17 years old have had the largest percentage of hospitalizations for the flu. To help reduce the risk of becoming ill, the CDC recommends getting updated vaccinations and practicing everyday preventive measures.
