VSP launches “Operation DISS-rupt” on I-81 this week
If you are traveling Interstate 81 in SWVA this week, expect to see a lot more blue lights. The Virginia State Police Wytheville Division is launching “Operation DISS-rupt” along all 325 miles of I-81 this Wednesday and Thursday, October 21st and 22nd. State Police Captain Patrick Kirtner says troopers are targeting the four main causes of fatal highway crashes: Distracted driving, Impaired driving, Speeding, and Seat belt violations. Virginia’s strict hands-free law will be heavily enforced. Officials say more than 550 people have died on state roads so far this year. The goal for this two-day blitz across Southwest Virginia is zero fatal crashes.
