Vulcan Materials seeks to expand excavation site in Greene County
Neighboring Residents are concerned as Vulcan Materials is seeking to more than double the size of its sand and gravel excavation site in Greene County. Tuesday, the company said it will provide material for important projects. Residents near the company’s Greystone site said they first learned of the proposal from a letter from county planning officials. The proposal calls for the rezoning of nearly 700 acres of land around the site from agricultural to industrial. That has neighboring residents concerned about increased traffic and activity at the already busy site. A statement from Vulcan Materials said that “Next week’s Planning Commission meeting is to amend the zoning map with a focus on accessing sand and gravel for vital projects and maintaining and repairing portions of Greystone Road.” The proposal is scheduled to go before the Greene County Planning Commission Tuesday, November 18 at 1 p.m.
