Washington County Mayor recommends pausing BWXT expansion ahead of meeting
Washington County Mayor Joe Grandy, in a statement Monday, recommends pausing the BWXT expansion, citing community concerns, and wanting more substantive and satisfactory answers. Grandy says the expansion could bring high tech and high paying jobs to Washington County, but the first duty of county government is to protect the local community. BWXT is seeking the rezoning to build a new facility at its Jonesborough plant, producing high-purity depleted uranium. Tuesday’s meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the George Jaynes Justice Center in Jonesborough.
