Wednesday marks 11th anniversary of the deaths of WDBJ journalists

Wednesday marked the 11th anniversary of the deaths of WDBJ journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward.

They were gunned down by a former worker during a live broadcast at Smith Mountain Lake. He was later pursued by State Police and committed suicide as officers moved in.

Parker was a Maryland native and a graduate of James Madison University where a journalism scholarship named in her memory was established. Ward grew up in Salem and attended Virginia Tech, where a fund named for him helps undergraduates with tuition.
