Wise County BOE hears first public comments since coach Travis Turner went missing

The Wise County Board of Education heard the first public comments at Monday nights meeting since Union High School football coach Travis Turner disappeared after finding out about a Virginia State Police investigation. Some community members voiced concerns about the transparency of Wise County Schools in addressing misconduct within the system, while other comments encouraged the community to stand together. The Wise County School Board said it would not address public comments made at the meeting until the next scheduled board meeting in February. The Board of Education met in December, but that meeting did not include comments from the public. Turner has been missing since disappearing into the woods last November and is facing multiple counts of child pornography and using a computer to solicit a minor.
