Wythe County deputy wounded in 2018 shootout honored with federal accolade
A Wythe County, Virginia deputy has been honored for his actions following a late-night robbery in November of 2018.
US Congressman Morgan Griffith, R-Christiansburg, awarded Officer Jacob Goins with the Congressional Badge of Bravery during a recent session of the Board of Supervisors.
Goins was wounded following a shootout with a suspect who had just robbed a motel in the Exit 80 area. Goins and a Virginia State Trooper found the suspect later in the night at a bus station where the man shot at both officers, striking Goins in the leg.
